The debut offering from Austin-based trio, Lost Palace, embraces the nonlinear international intercultural intergenerational production (and re-production) of musical styles through time and space.

"Désolé" and "Discothéque" imagine a world in which Detroit Funk and Soul has been lost to history, but Fela Kuti’s Afrobeat Infinite Groove tops the charts. Neither Kraftwerk nor Chic are remembered but William Onyeabor’s Electro Afrofunk fills the air in crowded clubs. No Dick Dale nor Jimi Hendricks can be heard but Peruvian Psychedelic Chicha rings out.

Lost Palace reads history in reverse. This condition, while obviously synthetic, is hardly unprecedented.

Just as it took British Stax-obsessive teen idols to introduce much of America to it’s own Delta Blues, and many Funk and Soul tracks have found an equally vital second life as un- or under-credited Hip Hop samples, Lost Palace seeks to treat secondary sources as primary, subtext becoming text through the timeless, stateless, fearless language of Groove.
